When disasters happen, it is local churches that provide the first response to their communities. This basic understanding—that disaster response is local—forms the foundation for The United Methodist Committee on Relief’s (UMCOR’s) U.S. disaster training and response. When responding to a disaster in the United States, UMCOR works with the conference disaster response ministries to provide a variety of services through trained volunteers. All volunteers providing initial response when disasters occur must be ERT trained. Washington Street UMC is partnering with the regional UMCOR training team to hold an Early Response Training (ERT) session on Saturday, March 17 here at the church. The class runs from 8am to 4pm and lunch is provided. The cost is $55 per person.
