Our work as the Church of South Washington is to lay claim to the promise of God in Jesus Christ, that we are not fully capable of being the Body of Christ, so long as any member of our God’s created is incapable of being who God has made them to be. May the Holy Spirit provoke us to action, that we may be agents of God’s love in this world.
“We’ve always done it that way” is one of the least faithful responses to the gospel of Jesus Christ. The Spirit gifts us for far greater freedom than being slaves to our past. There is a more faithful way.
It’s hard to image a world with no war, no competition, no division, and no sorrow. For us, it might even be unimaginable. But, this is exactly the body God has created in Christ. This is exactly the body empowered by God with the Spirit. This is the beauty of humanity formed by God in creation.
Into a world that keep trying to escape the frailty of the human body, God chooses to send Jesus in the form of the human body. As such an incarnate being, Jesus becomes the model for the church.
Saying to another, God won’t give you more than you can handle seeks to write off each person as an individual who must bear such hardships on their own. There is no Biblical foundation to this.
