God has blessed this world with more than we would ever need. And yet, so many still go without. As Christ was our example, our call is not to offer temporary relief that retains one’s oppression, but to offering freeing love that gives new life.
Admittedly, our national climate is one that leaves much to be desired. We have lost all attempts at civility with one another. But God calls us to be better in community. Christ offers the necessary traits for such a change in the Sermon on the Mount.
For St. Francis of Assisi, the way of poverty wasn’t about living with nothing, it was about living without any allegiance due to money. It was about serving God, only.
