Educational access has been an central passion of WSUMC for over 80 years. In the 1940s, WSUMC opened one of the early Day Schools in Alexandria, which operated for over 40 years. In 1991, the church opened up the Washington Street UMC Preschool, which continues to serve the community today, providing an education space for 2.5-5 year olds.
In 2015, the Washington Street UMC Early Education Fund was created to help provide the financial resources needed to send children in Alexandria to early education centers. Managed by ACT for Alexandria, the fund is made available to local non-profits, educational programs, and families to help make early education possible for children of low-income families in the City of Alexandria.
Donations to the Early Education Fund are always appreciated to ensure this Fund will continue to provide educational support for the community for years to come.
