At Washington Street UMC, we want to guide you through your wedding service, which we believe to be a celebration of your love and commitment to each other and to God.

We consider the covenant of marriage to be a most holy and special bond and are pleased that we can play a part in this special time for you. At Washington Street UMC we believe that a wedding is a religious service. As such, it is a Christian celebration of your love and commitment to each other and to God. Your wedding ceremony is also a worship experience, involving family and friends who want to participate in your joy. We look forward to meeting with you both and assisting in making this a special and memorable time.

Ready to Start
If you are interested in reserving a date for your wedding, please complete and submit our Wedding Request Form to begin the scheduling process.

  • Once you’ve sent your request, our Office Manager, Ann Cary McLain will respond with the available times to go over details and next steps.
  • Weddings are scheduled on a ‘first come, first served’ basis.
  • Dates can be scheduled up to one year in advance.

Your Wedding Day

Once your wedding date is confirmed, a Wedding Director will be assigned to you to assist in planning your service and in directing your rehearsal. Your Wedding Director will be available to help make your wedding day go smoothly.

All couples, whether members or non-members, who wish to be married by one of our ministers will be required to participate in premarital counseling in the months prior to the wedding date. Washington Street UMC Lead Pastor Thomas G. James may grant permission for another clergy person to assist in or perform the ceremony.

Music is an important part of your ceremony and our church organist is available to make appropriate selections and other musical arrangements.


Washington Street UMC can accommodate small receptions if desired. There is available a warming kitchen, cafe, and small Fellowship Hall for receptions.

Please speak with Office Manager, Ann Cary McLain, if you desire to have your reception at the church.

Wedding Information Form


It is the responsibility of the bride and the groom to ensure that all policies for weddings at Washington Street UMC are followed. Any outside vendors to whom these policies apply must be provided a copy of them.


The printer-friendly policies for florists includes a diagram of Washington Street UMC’s sanctuary altar planning decorations for weddings. These policies for florists apply whether the family chooses to use the services of a professional florist or those of a non-professional friend or relative. It is the responsibility of the family to ensure that anyone ordering or handling floral or other decorations is supplied with a copy of these policies.

Washington Street UMC welcomes photography and videography by professionals or amateurs provided it does not distract attention from worship. These policies are designed to support that goal. The bride and groom are responsible for ensuring that family, friends, and professional photographers and videographers observe these policies in detail. During the wedding, ushers are responsible for informing guests of these policies.
