The disciples traveled with Jesus for nearly three years observing his actions, hearing his teachings, and following in his footsteps. From time to time they questioned Jesus about parables and miracles. But, when it came to seeking instruction, they never begged, “Lord teach us to teach like you!” or, “Lord, teach us to do that miracle!” Instead, what captured their attention was hearing Christ pray.

In Luke’s Gospel, the disciples, observing Jesus in prayer, ask of him, “Lord, teach us to pray, just as John also taught his disciples.” They wanted to know how to talk to God in prayer.

In the month of April, we will take a closer look at the prayer Christ taught and identify how it offers us more than mere words to speak in prayer. The Lord’s Prayer, also known as the Our Father, teaches us about an appropriate attitude, mentality, and faithfulness in prayer. For three weeks we will study the prayer, found in Matthew’s Gospel, and then on the fourth week learn to practice prayer in an alternative worship experience, ENCOUNTERING GOD with our Hearts, Hands, and Minds.

Worship at WSUMC this April.
Worship is held each Sunday morning at 10:00 a.m.*
