Washington Street United Methodist Church (UMC) is seeking to make a place of worship for all persons to feel welcome. Worship and all church activities are open to all persons without regard to race, color, ethnicity, national origin, social status, gender, sexual orientation, age, economic condition or disabilities. Our theology is grounded in God’s grace, (the understanding that God, through Christ, has done all that is necessary for our salvation and that we do not need to earn, and cannot work, our way into heaven). We believe that God is love and that the deeper our relationship with God the more joyful, fulfilling and productive our lives become.

Worship Services

Worship at Washington Street is on Sunday mornings at 10:00am. The service includes communion every week (gluten free bread). The sanctuary at Washington Street is on the top floor of the church, accessible by both stairs and an elevator. There are steps into the church building at the front of the building, but there are ramps available to lay over the steps for wheelchair access, or the side entrance is wheelchair accessible.

Dress for worship is varied among the congregation. Some dress very casually, while others wear a suit and tie. You are invited to come as you desire to worship. All are welcome.

While there is nursery care available every Sunday for infants to 5 year olds, all children are invited to attend and participate in worship. There are activity bags available for children in the back pew of the sanctuary if desired as well. Learn more about children’s activities on the Children’s Ministry page.

If you have other questions about participating in worship, check out the Worship Services and Frequently Asked Questions pages.

Location and Parking

The church is located just off the corner of King St. and Washington St. at 109 S. Washington Street. The front entrance is located on Washington Street. You can find directions to the church using Google Maps. Street parking is available for free all around the church on Sundays with no time limit. There are a few handicap spots available on Washington Street in front of the church. Parking is usually available on Prince St., Columbus St., and Alfred St.

NEWLY AVAILABLE!!! Located just a few doors from Sweetgreen, the garage at 117 N. Alfred Street is just a 3-block walk from the church.

The church pays a weekly fee for garage access, which allows free all-day parking for WSUMC attendees. The lot is open at 8am on Sundays and remains open until 8pm. There is a church parking sign in front of the garage on Sundays to easily identify the garage.

When you enter the garage, you will receive a parking ticket. You will need to bring the ticket to the church and have it stamped with the church’s logo. This stamp will be located at the front door of the church – so you can stamp your ticket on your way in or on your way out. If you fail to stamp your ticket, you will be expected to pay for your parking on your way out of the garage.

If you have further questions about finding the church, parking, or worship times please contact the church office at 703-836-4324.
