As a small half-day program, Washington Street UMC Preschool benefits greatly from fundraising efforts to supplement and support a variety of programs and activities, including enrichment programs and need based scholarships. Family and community support elevates the quality of our preschool program and gives us the ability to expand our offerings.
We pursue several avenues of fundraising, passive and active. One easy and free way we encourage families to support us are by simply registering your Harris Teeter account with the following:

Additional Fundraising Activities
- WSUMCP coordinates an annual Book Fair at Old Town’s Hooray for Books! Each November, this three-day event is an opportunity for families to purchase books for holiday gifts with a portion of the purchase supporting the preschool. In addition, teachers provide a “wish list” of books that can be purchased for their classrooms.
- Our biggest fundraiser of the year is Spring2ACTion, Alexandria’s citywide day of giving. Usually occurring in April, this online event is open to family, alumni, community members and businesses. You can donate and encourage others to donate as well.
- Regular Dining In/Out events with local restaurants are great for preschool families to bond and support the preschool at the same time. A parent volunteer often sets up these events.
- “Leave Your Legacy” Brick Engraving – The preschool offers a wonderful opportunity for families to demonstrate their support of the preschool and our students. We offer 4”x8” red clay bricks with your personal message engraved. This tax deductible donation will help fund scholarships and ensure that Washington Street Preschool provides every child with the best possible preschool experience. The engraved bricks are placed in our courtyard and walkway in the playground where they will remain visible for generations to come. Pave the way for the next generation of Washington Street Preschool students, one brick at a time!
