Weddings

To those considering marriage or those newly engaged, Congratulations! We are excited that you are considering Washington Street United Methodist Church as part of your wedding plans. We cherish the opportunity to host your wedding, whether you are a member or non-member of the church.

We consider the covenant of marriage to be a most holy and special bond and are pleased that we can play a part in this special time for you. At Washington Street UMC we believe that a wedding is a sacred event. As such, it is a Christian celebration of your love and commitment to each other and to God. Your wedding ceremony is also a worship experience, involving family and friends who want to share in your joy. We look forward to meeting with you and assisting in making this a special and memorable time.

If you are interested in reserving a date for your wedding, please complete and submit the Wedding Request Form below. (To note, wedding dates can be scheduled up to one year in advance.)

To learn more about weddings at Washington Street UMC, please read the Wedding Policy, which offers additional information to help you plan your wedding at the church.

To our LGBTQ siblings: As a congregation within the United Methodist Church, WSUMC is not permitted to host, nor is our Pastor allowed to officiate same-gender weddings at this time. Our global denomination is very much in conflict over this policy. It is our hope at WSUMC that changes will soon be made to allow all of our community members to rightfully enjoin in the blessing of marriage in and through the life of the Church. Our Pastor is willing to meet and offer pre-marital counseling for any couple preparing for marriage, and until we are able to officiate ourselves, we would be happy to connect you with other non-UMC clergy in the community to preside on your special day.

Wedding Vendor Information

We know that weddings are special days, and couples often rely on outside vendors to help with decorations, photography, or videography. To help maintain the care of the building and the worship atmosphere of the wedding service, we ask wedding couples to make these forms available to outside vendors assisting at the church.

Florists
The printer-friendly policy for florists includes a diagram of Washington Street UMC’s sanctuary altar planning decorations for weddings. These policies for florists apply whether the family chooses to use the services of a professional florist or those of a non-professional friend or relative. It is the responsibility of the family to ensure that anyone ordering or handling floral or other decorations is supplied with a copy of these policies.

Photographers / Videographers
Washington Street UMC welcomes photography and videography by professionals or amateurs provided it does not distract attention from worship. These policies are designed to support that goal. The bride and groom are responsible for ensuring that family, friends, and professional photographers and videographers observe these policies in detail. During the wedding, ushers are responsible for informing guests of these policies.
